Philharmonic: The Orchestra

Kathleen S. Robinson, Conductor and Music Director

The Philharmonic is a full symphony orchestra with a complete compliment of winds, brass, percussion, and strings.  Its instrumentation includes the normal string ensemble and up to four of the following: flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets, trombones, and percussion.  A single tuba player and E-flat alto saxophones are included as well. (CLICK HERE for a profile of Philharmonic musicians and audition requirements.) The Philharmonic rehearses and performs Grade IV transcriptions of orchestral masterworks as well as original works composed for student symphony orchestra.  The orchestra rehearses each Tuesday at the Fine Arts Center from 4:30 until 6:00, and performs Middle School Orchestra Festival, the January Winter Orchestras Concert, and the April Spring Orchestras Concert.  HIGH SCHOOL MEMBERS OF THE PHILHARMONIC RECEIVE A ONE-HALF HONORS-LEVEL CREDIT THROUGH GCYO AND THE FINE ARTS CENTER.
