Philharmonic: Musician Profile

Philharmonic members:

Are middle and high school students with exceptional talent and growing ability on their instruments
Have been in school strings or band classes since or before the sixth grade.
Have taken private studio lessons for three or often more years.
Have auditioned successfully into Junior Region Orchestra or Band and often Junior All-State Orchestra or Band.

Philharmonic string players:

Are fluent in third and are learning about higher positions (violinists and violists)
Have fluent use of vibrato and produce a strong, characteristic tone
Have a growing vocabulary of bow strokes, including détaché, martelé, brush, and spiccato, and play comfortably in various parts of the bow
Can read notation in all common time signatures
Are familiar with musical concepts and terms through the Essential Technique book.
