Philharmonic: Musician Profile
Philharmonic members:
- Are middle and high school students with exceptional talent and growing ability on their instruments
- Have been in school strings or band classes since or before the sixth grade.
- Have taken private studio lessons for three or often more years.
- Have auditioned successfully into Junior Region Orchestra or Band and often Junior All-State Orchestra or Band.
Philharmonic string players:
- Are fluent in third and are learning about higher positions (violinists and violists)
- Have fluent use of vibrato and produce a strong, characteristic tone
- Have a growing vocabulary of bow strokes, including détaché, martelé, brush, and spiccato, and play comfortably in various parts of the bow
- Can read notation in all common time signatures
- Are familiar with musical concepts and terms through the Essential Technique book.
